Private Data and Trackers

Whether using your Smart Phone or home computer your personal information is at risk of being tracked or stolen. When using the internet you leave a digital record of the websites you visit and what you click on, this information is viewed by trackers. Some of these trackers are designed by the website you are visiting in order to know what interests you so it can suggest products, or subjects. These trackers are usually referred to as first party trackers and are generally harmless. Other trackers, such as third party trackers, cause more of a concern. This is because third party trackers will share data with other third party trackers around the web. This can include your personal information.  Sounds scary? Don’t fret too much as there are plenty of ways we can prevent your data from being tracked.

On your Smart Phone, or even your home computer, you can avoid being tracked by:

-Changing your search engine from Google to DuckDuckGo

-Adding the Ghostery extension to your computer’s web browser, or installing the mobile version on your smart phone

-Using the Incognito mode in your web browser

Being tracked isn’t the only way your personal information can be viewed, staying logged into a website, or keeping a history of personal messages can allow others to gain access to your data. Check out the article below on ways to avoid this.
